Both Deceased Students Identified in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Continue Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who died in the weekend's violent attack in Providence were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their shooter continued following the discharge by local law enforcement of the sole person of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, the group said. The White House press secretary also posted sympathies on social media, remarking: “Words cannot express. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the renowned school, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated late Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Community Anxiety

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our city”.
