Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Get Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disheartened if it fails to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a group of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of producers and composers. The song features a mix of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the initiative have emphasized that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These donations will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
