The British designer Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
