Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Real-time updates features live text for the weekend matchups on multiple platforms, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (from 14:00 BST). Also, radio commentary is available on select stations covering a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).
It's week six of the football calendar , following last week's talk about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being possible championship contenders, each surrendered their perfect starts.
Notable in those games was the number of penalties both conceded. The Eagles committed them in key moments so they essentially beat themselves after leading 17-3 entering the fourth period versus the Denver Broncos, who play overseas this weekend.
But it was good to observe how Denver quarterback the rookie managed to have the shortfall and then direct three scoring drives in three attempts during the final period, securing the victory by four points.
The Broncos have the top defender in CB Pat Surtain II. They are number one in red zone defence, while the Eagles lead the league in red zone offence, yet Denver won that contest.
They executed the Eagles' number regarding disguised blitzes. They weren't necessarily rushing extra defenders instead they could plug two linebackers in the interior before drop them out and dispatch a nickel off the edge.
Early on in the campaign, we said during a show how Denver could be the current year's dark horses. They finished last season well then excelled in continuing that momentum.
Could Denver be this season's dark horses?
New tight end their tight end has excelled significantly and new RB their rusher is a player they believe in. He now ranks fifth in the NFL for rushing yards (402) as well as tied-fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).
It's impressive how head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.
That shows how Denver represent a squad aiming to run first, since you can achieve much based on that approach. It reduces down the pass rush and maintains in positive situations.
This has helped QB Bo Nix, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, passing for 29 TDs – just behind Justin Herbert for the rookie record (31 in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert have powerful arms to throw anywhere, but they lack in the same way as Nix. He has exceptional arm talent, which is different, and he's highly agile.
His assets include his mobility, the capacity to pass on the run, as well as finding different arm angles to deliver throws when he rolls outside protection, on rollouts. He is able to deliver precision throws over the middle and over the corner.
For a young quarterback, aged 25, he's got great poise under pressure and isn't really fazed by the blitz. He tries to evade being tackled whenever possible and can pass in tight spots. He possesses a high football IQ and remains quick to decide.
When you consistently rush it eats up the clock and makes the defence to stay in play for longer, and if you have a mobile QB the defence has to defend the field vertically side to side. This proves draining.
Nix has bitten back at Payton on the sideline sometimes and it seems the coach likes that fire, seeing him as a fierce rival. In my view it's exciting for the coach to coach a young quarterback that is kind of like moldable clay. He can truly develop him the way he desires to shape him. I think it's a special experience for the coach.
Payton owns a championship and now surpassed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed it all. In my opinion the success Denver are experiencing on offence is mostly due to his leadership, his play-calling, his situational awareness – and the pairing with Nix aids shape him what he is.
There's no better a better guy guiding you, to help you through some of the tougher situations and boost self-belief.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to go against an elite team at full strength? Because that was not a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles last Sunday.
Right now, it's unlikely Denver are elite. They're performing better than most, which is a good place to be in their division. All they need is is maintain this path.
They're really good at embracing their strength, that is the ground game, and this is exactly what they should do against the New York Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.
The Jets have surrendered 140 rushing yards per game (among the worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they are the only team without a win any game.
Ever since the NFL started recording takeaways in 1933, the Jets are also the inaugural squad to go without any turnovers through five games, which is surprising when you think that their new coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator with another team.
The Chiefs' QB stated the Chiefs are off to a poor start following a recent loss by the Jaguars.
After the upcoming matchup, Denver face a manageable slate until their break (in week twelve) - the Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In their division, Kansas City hold a losing record and the Broncos are even with the Los Angeles Chargers at 3-2 so they could make a run for the top of the division.
This hinges upon which form Kansas City shows up they meet since Denver {beat|def
