Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I will never coach any other side on English soil. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks that took the title in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the notion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed in 2020, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Not a single person might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
