Arsenal's manager feels assured that his team can keep managing with player absences after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been sidelined since August following knee surgery. Hoped to come back earlier in December, Arteta explained the player hit a snag when advancing his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “to the next level.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is much more reliable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update presents a tactical puzzle for the midweek match against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also available post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Further fitness issues involve centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Chelsea match. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the £250m spend on new players in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a much stronger position to navigate such absences.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if increased squad depth was helping their title quest, the manager agreed. “Indeed, as this campaign has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the situation with the backline,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the top. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Havertz

Speaking about the setback highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the next level and now it appears like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, for me, I admire greatly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his nature. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His playing record is outstanding, he's rarely been injured, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back with the squad playing because I believe it’s going to be a huge lift.”
