The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has stepped down as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a judicial decision that challenged her legal standing to occupy the role.
Official Departure
The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, announced the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the appeals court finding made it impossible for the official to lead the department effectively.
"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "The effort will now extend throughout the country."

Habba's exit follows closely on a judicial panel determined that she had been serving in violation of the law as US attorney. This decision is likely to affect numerous legal proceedings in the Garden State.
The court ruled that a temporary posting that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate ran afoul of the federal law governing appointments.

It was also stated that she will stay on at the Department of Justice as a high-level advisor. She will pursue additional appeals of the ruling, with hopes of a reversal.
In a statement, she wrote that the court "cannot be permitted to second-guess the President's choice of attorneys tasked with performing the fundamental role of the presidency of enforcing the law."

The 41-year-old attorney, was initially recruited to Trump's personal legal team in recent years. She went on to acted for her client in his hush-money trial in the previous year, leading to his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of financial record manipulation.
Prior to Habba took on the top New Jersey post, the former president had revealed he was selecting her as his presidential counsellor in a potential future term, describing Habba as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a "tireless advocate for justice".
