New Year Revelers Told to Wrap Up Warm with Snow Expected Across the UK
Weather experts are reporting a chilly commencement to the new year, with wintry precipitation anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants are being urged to bundle up as near-freezing temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Festive Events Continue In Spite of Forecasts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are expected to take place, following last year's postponement. This is in spite of weather alerts for snow in northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those partying, so additional clothing will be essential," said the Met Office.
Fireworks Under Open but Chilly Skies
Across the UK, the weather is expected to be perfect for fireworks celebrations, with dry conditions and open skies. Readings are expected to be cold, meaning additional clothing a necessity, according to forecasters.
To the north, skies will be cloudier, but this is not expected to impact visibility for seeing fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Broad Snow Warnings for New Year's Day
Moving into Friday, advisories have been issued for Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and most of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Forecast to Plummet Even More
With the start of 2026, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are expected to plummet as wintry showers and strong winds are predicted to affect the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is expected to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Public Health Alerts Issued
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to continue until noon on 5 January, with temperatures expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency explained this indicated the weather was likely to lead to major effects across medical and care provision. This involves a likely increase in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those aged 65 or over.
