The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:
- Each team has just eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
