The network's Premier New Show of This Year Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
