UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie hospital, while additional clips show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
